What To Expect - Religious Education

When you arrive for the first time:

Please have your children dressed comfortably (for we encourage movement and art work)

  1. We encourage you come early and visit the House

(across the path to the Fellowship Hall).  These few minutes to acquaint your child(ren) to their room and some of the people here can really help.  NOTE: you are welcome to join in the group if your child needs you to.

  2. Please fill out a purple “Guest Registration Form (a sample below & copies will be in the House when you come).   This helps us to identify the right group for your child, and helps us find the appropriate person should they need you paged.  We appreciate knowing any serious allergy (food or other) information and any other information that would help us help your child feel at ease.
  • If after attending three or four times, you decide this is the community for you, Please contact the Director of Religious Education to complete a formal Registration form which offers you options of service (large & small) to help our program be the best it can be.
  • From September through May 15th at 9 AM & 11 AM   Children  start with their families in the Fellowship Hall where they join in the opening song and welcome.  Young children are invited to come up front for a children's story or interactive discussion (and parents can join them if need be)!  After that, as music is played, they walk across the path to the House and their group room and participate in religious education activities.  (Note: 6th-8th graders may start in the House - check with group leaders).

At various times during the year:

  • Intergenerational services are planned throughout the year usually: A "Water Communion" Service in September (when we start 9 & 11 am services again), the Sunday before Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Easter/Passover and a special “Flower Communion” in June. The children and youth participate in the service and stay in the Fellowship Hall for the service.

  • At various times during the church year, the children to go directly to the House for their own 25-30 minute Children's Chapel service (usually includes music, chalice lighting, joys and sorrows sharing, story) after which they break into groups for follow-up discussions, activities and snacks.

  •  Summer Programming (4th of July through Labor Day weekends during 10 a.m. services) usually comes from a combination of the interests of the congregation, some curricula, and it is an opportunity for something a little different from the school year routine!
