From the Board of Trustees

My first year on the Board of Trustees is coming to an end. It has been an incredibly busy year for the BOT and a wonderful learning experience for me. We’ve worked now for a year without a president using a ‘Shared Leadership’ model. We divided up the various tasks between Board members according to abilities, experience, and willingness. It succeeded as a result of our planning and a spirit of collaboration.
Much of the year’s work you will read about in the End of Year Report at this year’s Annual Meeting on June 7th. We navigated the beginning of the year without Rev. Tony who was on his sabbatical. He returned, grateful and refreshed on September 13th. We are now navigating the end of the year without Rev. Sierra-Marie Gerfao, who is on her much-deserved sabbatical.
Carl Tichler has helped us understand the budget and finances. Margaret Henderson has stepped up to become our new Treasurer as Marie Dupree retired as Treasurer after many years of service to UUCD. We know that paying attention to finances is a primary responsibility of the BOT.
Board Member, Todd Zagorec also provided invaluable expertise in reading, understanding and explaining contracts, including the lease for our new printer, which helps us save money on printing. He also took a leadership role with the Stewardship campaign.
The BOT also helped facilitate UUCD’s commitment to social action by allowing GDUFI’s (Greater Danbury Unites for Immigrants) fundraising collection to go through UUCD’s SimpleGive Account. And we voted to give CT UU Social Justice Ministry temporary permission to list UUCD as the fiscal agent on their application for a startup grant of up to $20,000 from a UUA organization.
