From the Board of Trustees

From the Board of Trustees

by Jean Kannan, Trustee

Summer is a time when a lot of folks kick back and relax, go on vacation or take the time to pursue other interests that there is no time for during the year. While Board members have been enjoying their summer, the Board remains active.

We kicked off the summer with our annual retreat at Lou Ann Heller’s clubhouse. Well, it isn’t actually her clubhouse, it belongs to her complex. It was warm and welcoming, as you would expect from Lou Ann. There were big overstuffed sofas and chairs, and even a fireplace, which we didn’t need to use. Rev. Tony brought in pastries and we settled into business. It was an inspirational day; one where I came away with a deeper understanding of myself and my fellow Board Members. Afterwards, Margaret Henderson braved the cold water in Lou Ann’s pool.

We continued with our monthly Monday night meetings, with a particular focus on the Music Director Position and the task force addressing new ways to meet our financial needs. For those of you who do not know, at the Annual Meeting in June it was asked for and voted on to assemble a task force to come up with new, creative ways to fund raise. UUCD runs on donations and fundraising.

The Board would like to thank everyone who worked tirelessly this summer to keep our Sunday Services going.  UUCD could not have continued the services during the summer without all of you. They are on the website, so check them out if you missed any Sundays. The services were amazing.  THANK YOU!!

As summer is winding down, we welcomed Rev. Sierra-Marie back from Sabbatical and Rev. Tony back from his Spanish immersion program. I’m sure you will hear from them about their work and adventures.

As many of you have been away for the summer, we look forward to welcoming you back on Sunday mornings.  Of particular note is our Ingathering/Water Communion Service on September 13, which is a multi-generational service. But you don’t have to wait until then to return! Please be sure to check the Events Calendar and the Thursday morning This Week emails to see all the amazing events coming up.

I’ve been attending UUCD for nearly 2 years. If we haven’t met, come introduce yourself to me after a service.  I’d love to get to know you.

Welcome back and welcome to September!
