October Events

Come join the UUCD Women’s Afternoon Gathering on October 1 (the first Thursday of the month), 1:30-3:00 PM, in the lower level of Fellowship Hall. In addition to casual conversation, our October “Discussion Topic” will be: “What holds a community together in times of challenge and change?” All conversation is held in confidence.
All are welcome – no signups necessary.
Questions? Speak to Barbara Myers, Melody Levy, or Lisa Horton

Please join us in the UUCD’s Men in Conversation meeting on Wednesday, October 14th  (the second Wednesday of the month) from 10 to 11:30 AM, in the UPPER-level of Fellowship Hall. All who identify as male are welcome. Healthy snacks will be available. For more information, please contact Jeff Asher, Randy Bomer, and Pete Simon.

The Evening Women’s Group will meet on the THIRD TUESDAY of the month from 6:30-8:00 pm in the Lower Level of the Fellowship Hall! ALL folks who identify as female are welcome to attend.

Our next meeting is on Tuesday, October 20th.

Questions?  Contact Darlene Anderson-Alexander or Joanne Davidson.

Saturday, October 17th – Rev. Suze Shaner-Brodax and Dan Brodax are facilitating Movies with a Message, using Spiritual Cinema’s movie shorts each month from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. These nights consist of 1-3 short movies that explore the big questions about life and living (i.e, Who are we? Why are we here? Where are we bound? and What can we become when we live at our highest level of potential?) with discussion afterwards. We will supply water and popcorn. Feel free to bring your takeout dinner. Donations to UUCD gratefully accepted.

The Resistance Will Be Beautiful:

October 17th Solidarity Summit

Sign up here (www.sidewithlove.org/solidarity-summits) and join Unitarian Universalists of all ages and our justice-seeking friends from across the state on October 17th in Hamden, CT to reimagine democracy, meet with partner organizations doing great work around the state, and build relationships and skills for shared practices of justice, democracy, and collective liberation. Now is the time to organize, together!

Worship Title: Possibility in the Chaos of Violence with Kristianna Smith

Keynote Address: Turned Upside Down for Justice with Juan Fonseca Tapia, immigration justice organizer

Workshops:

We will also have phonebanking opportunities throughout the day, calling BIPOC voters in voter-suppression states to offer voter information. And we will have roundtables with partner organizations (exact ones to be confirmed): Hands Off CT, CT Students for a Dream, CT for All, Equality CT, Reproductive Equity Now, CT Tenants Union, and so on.

Most of all, come to meet and connect with others who want a better world. Gaining capacity for meaningful action in community is a major antidote to the anxieties of our time.

Our annual Trunk or Treat sponsored by our Senior High Youth Group is a real treat for all ages! What makes our Trunk or Treat different is that we want everybody to have the joy of trick-or-treating in a costume (or not – this is optional), adults included! We decorate our car trunks, dress up, and take turns giving and receiving regardless of age. Please save the date for a Trunk or Treat at 11:30AM on Sunday, October 25th. Invite friends! This year we will have a bounce house because our fall Fun Fair bounce house had to be rescheduled due to rain. As always, we ask that you make sure that your decorations and costumes are culturally respectful and not racist, ableist, or transphobic. Learn more and get a list of costumes and decorations to avoid here: http://www.lspirg.org/costumes
