Beyond Categorical Thinking is a Program designed to promote inclusive thinking and prevent unfair discrimination during a congregation’s search for a settled minister. In finding the person who would be the best match for our minister, we could potentially overlook or even let biases keep us from knowing that a particular person would be the best match for us.
The service will include the Commissioning of our 2017-18 Religious Education year.
Beyond Categorical Thinking – A program sponsored by your Ministerial Search Committee
Following the service, there will be a light lunch provided by the Committee and a 3 hour workshop led by the facilitator. Babysitting will be provided. In finding a person who would be the best match for a minister, we may have preconceptions or biases which could cause us to overlook candidates or otherwise prevent us from finding the best possible candidate. There are ministers who may face discrimination due to race, class, sexual identity, disability or other reasons. This workshop is designed to explore the issues and engage the congregation in a discussion of the issues. We urge you to join us for the service and following workshop.
