The Art of Shirking
Service Presenter: Rev. Nancy O. Arnold
Presented on September 4, 2016
Labor Day is an annual national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. It also marks the end of summer when children and adults prepare to resume more structured schedules after a summer respite. While most of us welcome the more leisurely days of summer, it may not be a natural state for those who grew up with an ethic that values hard work and diligence. So – just for today – let us honor the shirk ethic. It’s a learned response that may actually make us more productive and creative.
