Meet Our Staff

Our Interim Ministry with the Rev. Nancy O. Arnold began in August, 2016.  Ordained in 1990, Nancy served congregations in Connecticut and Ohio as a settled parish minister for seventeen years, prior to returning to her native New York in 2008. For the next three years, she worked as a hospice chaplain with Visiting Nurse Service of New York, and as the Pastoral Care Minister for the Bay Shore, Long Island Congregation, before returning to the parish as an interim minister in 2012.

The UU Congregation of Danbury is Nancy’s fourth interim ministry. On Long Island, she worked with the UU Fellowship of Huntington, and then the UU Congregation of the South Fork, before joining All Souls Church in New York City as Interim Assistant Minister for Congregational Life and Pastoral Care in 2015.

Nancy’s roots in Unitarian Universalism are in Amherst, Massachusetts, where she served as an active lay leader for ten years before studying for the ministry. She is a 1984 Women’s Studies graduate from UMass, Amherst, and a graduate of Harvard Divinity School. She is also certified as a Spiritual Director and as a Grief Recovery Specialist.

Nancy and her partner Jerry have been together for 20 years, and live with Annie and Harry, their rescued cock-a-poos. Nancy has a grown son who lives in Massachusetts.

Darlene Anderson-Alexander has been a member of the congregation since 1991 and has been involved in Religious Education – either as a class leader or a member of the RE Ministry Team – since about 1994.  She holds a B.S. Ed. (Regular and Special Education) from the State University of New York College at Geneseo and a M.S. Ed. (Special Education, Severe Disabilities) from the University of Maryland at College Park.  Darlene worked with children and teens with disabilities in educational, recreational, and vocational settings.  She also worked as a volunteer coordinator for a recreation department and a nursing home. After about a 10-year hiatus from the world of work to be an “at-home parent” to her three children, Darlene began her career as a Director of Religious Education here in her beloved congregation five years ago.  Darlene is enrolled in the Unitarian Universalist Association Religious Education Credentialing Program and is looking forward to applying what she learns to solidifying and growing the UU Religious Education program here in Danbury.

As the Director of Religious Education (DRE), Darlene works with the Religious Education Ministry Team in planning and coordinating the programs for the religious education of children and youth in grades pre-K through 12.  She oversees religious education programming, recruits and trains volunteers, conducts children’s worship and, in collaboration with our minister, Reverend Nancy Arnold, participates in congregational worship and celebrations.

Sherry Kyriacou has been the Office Manager for our congregation since 2005.  Her position here is manifold and challenging which benefits greatly from Sherry’s interpersonal, administrative and technical skills.  The rest of the staff and all the congregants who work with Sherry are most grateful to have her here.  Prior to coming to the UUCD, she worked as the Parish Secretary at St. James’ Episcopal Church for 9 years.  Sherry lives in New Fairfield with her husband, five sons, four cats and one dog.
