by Marie Dupree, Treasurer
Hi, all my friends at UUCD,
I have been a member of UUCD for 50+ years and have seen lots of changes!!!
I will turn 80 on December 9th. I lost my husband, Keith, on March 16th this year. We had been married for 59 years. We had a Celebration of Life service, which a lot of you attended in person or on Zoom. I really appreciate all the support that I received.
My two children were educated in the UU principles and still carry these principles as the core of their values. My son was married twice, and each time it was officiated by a UU minister. I have five grandchildren. My daughter who is not married has Jocelyn who is 17 years old and a senior in high school. My son has four children: the twins (a daughter and a son) by his first wife, who are twenty years old and attend UCONN as juniors; and two daughters with his second wife – one is 13 and the other is 10. They attend Hudson Montessori School. Although my grandchildren have not attended any UU congregations, they have been brought up with UU values! We also go to Star Island off the coast of New Hampshire each year to the “Life On A Star” summer program!
I have been Treasurer of UUCD a bunch of times. When I first became Treasurer, the budget was $16,000. Today it is $337,000 with a planned deficit of $16,035. We are still struggling. It is a challenge, but the congregation is very supportive. I have the support of Finance Chair Carl Tichler, Peter Horton and Margaret Henderson. Sherry Kyriacou as Administrator is fantastic and saves me a lot of time.
I have been Board President once!
We, my family and I, are proud that we are UU’s. I am proud that I’m a member of UUCD! This congregation has been very supportive of our marriage! I attended the UUCD Women’s Retreat and have been involved with the UUA and the old “Metropolitan District” which our congregation was a part of.
Being a UU has given purpose to my life. I do not know where I would be today without UU’s.
