Teams & Ministries

There are many ways to get involved and make a difference in our community. We have teams and ministries which are charged with doing the diverse work of the congregation to help create the connected experience that our members have come to love. Visit us, join us; make a difference.

In addition to the teams and ministries listed below, congregation members organize activities and interests including discussion groups, spiritual study groups, social action projects, a men’s group, a women’s group, a knitting group, intergenerational penpals, chair yoga classes, concerts, books, movies, theater, dining out, an annual women’s retreat and many others. Check the links in the right hand column for up-to-date information about current activities. If safety and/or communications are your thing, we have you covered there too.

The Board of Trustees, made up of elected members, provides direction and management of the congregation’s property, employees and business affairs.

The Sunday Services Ministry handles organization and logistics for services. They also develop and coordinate member-led services, including services during the summer, by connecting with other teams, UU Danbury members, and outside speakers.

The Music Ministry provides music to enhance Sunday services. In addition to our Music Director, Jerry Phelps, who plays the piano for most services and leads our choir, performances by other instrumental and vocal groups, largely from our own congregation, are a source of joy. We welcome the participation of musicians in our congregation.

The Religious Education Ministry works with the Director of Religious Education to develop and implement programs for youth from pre-school to 12th grade. An Inclusion Ministry works to create a welcoming space for all children, youth and families at UU Danbury.

The Social Justice Council coordinates a wide range of social action and outreach programs undertaken by members of the congregation. Service projects are planned from time to time.

We also acknowledge that we live in an increasingly diverse America, and that race continues to divide us because of unconscious bias, willful blindness, deeply ingrained systems of oppression, and the burdens of our history. Our activities include: continuing education and dialogue, self-evaluation of our congregations and their inclusion practices, and offering witness on behalf of inclusion and racial justice.
